Article I. Name
Math Club
Article II. Purpose and Involvement
The objective shall be to broaden members’ scope and appreciation of mathematics and to compete in local and national competitions. Math Club meets the needs of those seeking to expand their mathematical knowledge beyond what is taught in the classroom. Many students (both in and out of the club) participate in the AMC, a national competition. Members join simply for their love of mathematics.
Article III. Eligibility
All University High School students shall be eligible to join.
Article IV. Election of Officers
Board members shall be elected the previous year. Active Members may nominate themselves and must then be approved by the advisors and senior board members. An election shall be run to select the next year’s board members from the approved nominees. Only members who have actively participated throughout the entire school year may vote in the election. The right to vote in board elections is subject to the discretion of the advisors and senior board members. Once the vote is taken, a panel consisting of the advisors and senior board members will convene to decide the future board, taking into account the results of the election into their decisions.
Article V. Officer Responsibilities
Presidents shall be responsible for organizing and running weekly meetings, recruiting new members for Math Club, helping club advisors register contests and making sure the club is running well. They are also equally responsible for managing all Mu Alpha Theta matters.
The Secretary/Treasurer shall be responsible for calendering test dates and informing club members of upcoming contests, keeping a record of lunch meetings and club events, helping to recruit new members for Math Club and promoting Math Club in the student body, keeping track of all registration procedures for Math Club and handling the school bureaucracy in keeping Math Club official, posting club minutes, updating the club website and being very involved in Math Club’s activities. The Secretary/Treasurer shall also be responsible for keeping in constant contact with the advisors in regard to all financial matters and collaborating with the advisors for the AMC registration process.
The Contest Commissioner shall be responsible for looking for and helping register for old and new contests, helping prepare club members for the contests by compiling problems from the respective contests, managing contest publicity, communicating with the Secretary/Treasurer to schedule contest dates; and being very involved in Math Club’s activities.
Any board member shall be removed should they neglect their duties. Board members are given two excused warnings, after which the board member’s actions will be discussed with advisors and presidents present. On the third warning, that board member shall be immediately removed from the board.
Article VI. Meetings
Meetings will consist of several kinds of math-related activities. The first 5-10 minutes of each meeting are devoted to announcements and other updates on upcoming competitions and opportunities. The rest of the meeting consists of either a lecture focusing on an interesting topic in mathematics or an activity such as club wide competitions, math Jeopardy or ARML-style team relays.
Article VII. Finances
The Secretary/Treasurer is in charge of keeping an organized record of all financial payments and deposits in addition to keeping up to date with the SAC. This way, any inconsistencies can be traced, and all board members will be able to audit club finances.
Article VIII. Open Ended
In the event that a board member is removed from their position, a replacement will be appointed by the remaining board members and the advisors.
